Pay Range: $37.41 - $64.82 per hour

Summary

The Vascular Access Nurse expertly provides and coordinates IV therapy and care for a group of patients that includes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The Vascular Access Nurse serves as a role model for other clinical nursing staff and collaborates with the Interventional Radiology Team. The Vascular Access Nurse exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. The Vascular Access Nurse is accountable to demonstrate and continue to develop proficiency (both knowledge and skill) specific to all types of vascular access.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing
  • Minimum two years previous PICC experience
  • Knowledge of current IV therapies and access devices

Skills

  • Analytical and critical thinking ability
  • Excellent IV, PICC, Central Line, Midline insertion skills
  • Proficiency in the insertion of PIV with ultrasound guidance
  • Effective communication skills for leading, teaching, and motivating others
  • Ability to interact effectively in difficult situations
  • Current BLS certification (must remain current)
  • Vascular Access Board Certified, VA-BC, or Certified Registered Nurse Infusionist, CRNI
  • PICC certification

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Master's in Nursing

Physical Demands

  • Ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and stand or walk most of the shift
  • Lifting or carrying objects 35-40 lbs and repositioning patients, some over 300 lbs
  • Ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard, and examine reports and images
  • Performing procedures with potential risks if carelessness occurs, including contact with infectious materials or chemicals
