Portland Public Schools in Portland, ME, is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and well-organized Varsity HS Softball Coach for the Spring 2027 season. The Head Coach will lead a newly formed varsity team comprising student-athletes from Deering, Portland, and Casco Bay high schools.
The role requires prior coaching and teaching experience, and the candidate must complete state criminal history checks and NFHS coaching certification; onboarding is through PPS HR.
Deering and Portland H.S. (PPS) are currently seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, successful and well-organized candidate to serve as our new Varsity H.S. (Co-op) Head Softball Coach for the Spring 2027 season. Candidate must be flexible to work within a cooperative team environment and to skillfully manage a co-op program. Previous coaching (H.S., club or college) and/or teaching experience is preferred. H.S. and/or college softball playing expereince is ideal. Head Coach will lead and coach our newly-formed Varsity H.S. Team (year 3 of co-op) comprised of student-athletes from Deering, Portland and Casco Bay H.S. Head Coach position will be supported by 1-2 Asst. Coaches. Asst. Coach roles will be in support of the Head Coach for the varsity program AND may also include coaching our JV team, #s dependent (TBD). Asst. Coach job opening(s) will be posted separately.
Applicants must hold a current State of Maine Department of Education (DOE) Criminal History Records Check (CHRC), and complete all required MPA coaching certificaiton courses via the NFHS, all PPS HR clearance paperwork and must be formally onboarded by PPS HR prior to employment. EOE.
Our PPS H.S. Softball team practices and competes at Payson Park in Portland. The season start date (conditioning) is March 22, 2027. Deadline for applications is September 21, 2026. Our goal is to hire our new PPS H.S. Head Softball Coach by October 30th (or sooner).
