Dexter Southfield is seeking qualified applicants for a Spring 2026 Girls' Varsity Softball Head Coach to oversee all aspects of team and player development, game strategy, program leadership, and serve as a role model for student-athletes. Responsibilities include teaching skills and techniques, planning and leading practices, and motivating players to develop as individuals and collectively as a team. This role requires the coach to develop strategies, maintain records, and build a team of confident, successful student-athletes. The head softball coach is expected to participate in all team practices and games, including pre- and post-season training, tournaments, and activities. Additional hours may be required throughout the playing season for various assignments including parent meetings, open houses, showcases, college placement seminars, and other job duties. Coaches must maintain certifications for their position(s), including but not limited to certification in CPR/AED, training in the use of an Epi-pen, and procedures for other medication administration and are required to attend all mandatory meetings associated with their coaching duties, maintain necessary records, and prepare and file reports on a timely basis as required by the School.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent academic credentials
Proficiency in softball skills training and team management
Two or three years of independent school or collegiate-level coaching experience required
Strong communication and leadership skills
Maintain a current driver’s license and clean driving record
Demonstrate knowledge, strategy, and leadership principles of the designated sport
Effective communication, organizational, and team management skills
Maintain current CPR/AED/First Aid certification required
Understanding of the academic, social, and behavioral characteristics of student-athletes
Ability to work as a team player and individual contributor
Commitment to actively promote and contribute to an engaging and inclusive workplace
Ability to work flexible hours as required for this role
Compensation is determined based on several factors, including but not limited to job knowledge, skills, experience, credentials, and workload. The salary range for this position is $6,000 to $20,000.
