Job summary

Westover School, a girls-centered boarding and day school in Middlebury, CT, seeks a Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach for the Spring 2027 season (March–May). Qualifications

• Experience coaching lacrosse at HS/club/collegiate level.
• Strong knowledge of lacrosse fundamentals, drills, and game strategy.
• Ability to motivate and support student-athletes in an inclusive environment.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• CPR/First Aid/AED certification or willingness to obtain.
• Connecticut driver’s license endorsement (A) to transport student-athletes is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of the varsity lacrosse program, including practices, game prep, and game-day operations.
• Provide technical instruction, feedback, and tactical guidance to players.
• Design developmentally appropriate practices focused on individual and team growth.
• Foster a positive team culture emphasizing respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
• Supervise athletes during practices, games, travel, and activities.
• Collaborate with Athletic Director on schedules, logistics, and equipment.
• Provide leadership to assistant coaches and align with program goals.
• Communicate professionally with athletes, families, staff, and officials.
• Ensure compliance with school policies, league rules, and safety regulations.
• Travel with the team to away games and events as needed.

Job Summary

The Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach will provide leadership, instruction, and oversight for Westover's varsity lacrosse program, fostering an environment where student-athletes can grow in skill, confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Head Coach is responsible for the overall direction of the team, including practice planning, game preparation, technical instruction, student-athlete development, and collaboration with the Athletics Department.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Lead all aspects of the varsity lacrosse program, including planning and conducting practices, preparing for competition, and overseeing game-day operations.
• Provide technical instruction, skill development, game strategy, and individualized feedback to student-athletes.
• Develop practices that are competitive, engaging, developmentally appropriate, and focused on individual and team growth.
• Foster a positive and motivating team culture that promotes respect, hard work, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
• Safely and effectively supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and other team activities.
• Collaborate with the Athletic Director and Athletics Department regarding schedules, team logistics, transportation, equipment, and program needs.
• Provide leadership and direction to assistant coaching staff and promote alignment with the goals and expectations of the program.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, families, faculty, staff, officials, and other coaches.
• Ensure compliance with all Westover School policies and procedures, league requirements, and applicable safety regulations.
• Travel with the team to away games and events as required.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Previous lacrosse coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level and/or a successful competitive lacrosse background.
• Strong knowledge of lacrosse fundamentals, technical skill development, game strategy, and practice planning.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and support student-athletes in a positive and inclusive environment.
• Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, reliability, and a collaborative approach.
• Enthusiasm for working with adolescents and contributing to an independent school community.
• CPR/First Aid/AED certification or willingness to obtain.
• Ability and willingness to obtain a Connecticut "A" endorsement on driver's license to transport student-athletes is a plus.
• Successful completion of required background checks and reference review.
