Job summary

Russell County Public Schools is seeking a head high school coach to lead and supervise a comprehensive sports program with emphasis on skill development, strategy and teamwork. The role includes mentoring student athletes, coordinating coaches and planning for practices and competitions.

The head coach will model strong character, promote sportsmanship, and stay current with coaching methods and sport-specific theories through clinics and collaboration with school administrators.

Qualifications

• Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
• The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
• The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.
• The head coach must examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.

Responsibilities

• Has thorough knowledge of athletic policies approved by the Russell County Public Schools Board of Education and ensures implementation by the staff.
• Understands the administrative line of command and communicates through proper channels.
• Maintains discipline and evaluates assistants; promotes staff development via clinics and meetings.
• Organizes preseason meetings and coordinates staff, coaches and athletes.
• Provides transportation and schedules for tournaments and events; ensures facility times and safety rules.
• Maintains equipment inventory, budgets for the program and enforces responsible use of facilities.
• Promotes the sport to the school and community; maintains good public relations with media, boosters and families.
