Job summary

City of Lakewood seeks an on-site Aquatics Supervisor to oversee all aspects of the pool facility. You will supervise lifeguards, train staff, schedule shifts, and ensure safety for patrons while maintaining records and pool chemistry.

Key duties include enforcing city rules, coordinating with staff, and ensuring smooth operation during varied hours and weekends. A ARC Lifeguarding cert is required; LGI and AFO/CPO knowledge are pluses.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Lifeguarding for at least 1 year required.
• Supervisory experience 1 year preferred.
• Swim lessons experience preferred.
• Certifications: ARC Lifeguarding required; LGI preferred; AFO/CPO knowledge helpful.

Job description

HIRING RATE: $24.00/hour

Responsible for on-site supervision of the entire operation of the aquatic facility. This includes maintenance, staff relations, public contact, shift reports, and scheduling.

The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion. Employees must be able to perform the essential duties of this job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates the work efforts of variable lifeguards as well as providing training, conducting in-service, and audits with supervisory staff.
• Responsible for the safety of all patrons in the entire pool/facility area.
• Responsible for scheduling of lifeguards and head guards to the standards of the aquatics facility and maintain appropriate staffing levels.
• May Instruct a variety of swim lesson classes and other duties as assigned.
• Ensures all City policies, pool rules, and regulations regarding the operation of the pool are adhered to and enforced by staff.
• Operates and maintains the pool chemistry. Trouble shoots basic pool chemistry and equipment issues.
• Ensures cleanliness of the pool, locker rooms, staff areas, and all the other areas within the pool facility.
• Makes sure pool chemistry and attendance logs are correctly entered into DigiQuatics.
• Works a variety of days/hours based on the location needs, including early mornings, midday, nights, and weekends. Requires regular and prompt attendance. This position works at least 30 hours per week up to a maximum of 40 hours.
• Seasonal set up and shutdown of outdoor aquatic facilities.

Reporting Relationships

Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from the Aquatics Coordinator and supplementary direction from the Aquatics Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised: Provides supervision to headguards, lifeguards and swim instructors.

• Ability to employ effective instructional methods and lifeguarding techniques, as well as the ability to model those techniques to team members.
• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of swimming pool machinery and equipment. A good working knowledge of the use and applications of swimming pool chemicals is preferred.
• Background check required.

Technological Skills

• Experience with DigiQuatics and CivicRec software programs.
• Ability to operate Microsoft Office Suite to include, Outlook, Word and Excel.

Education and Experience

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience: One year of lifeguarding experience is required.
• One-year supervisory experience preferred.
• Swim lessons experience preferred.

Certification/Licenses/Specialized Training

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification
• Lifeguard Instructor Certification (LGI) is preferred.
• Ideal candidates would have an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification or a strong knowledge of pool chemistry.
