Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. is seeking a skilled furnace operator for our South Gate, CA facility. The role involves operating vacuum arc melting furnaces, following SOPs, and performing pre-operational checks with strong adherence to safety and quality standards.

The position requires mechanical aptitude, ability to work in a team, and experience with heavy equipment like forklifts and cranes. We offer a structured training path and comprehensive benefits as part of our aerospace manufacturing

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Trade school or additional training preferred.
  • 3 years working experience in a relevant environment.
  • Vacuum Arc titanium melting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow standard manufacturing and operating procedures. Strong learning aptitude required, 75% of the knowledge required must be learned on the job.
  • Perform pre-operative checks prior to and during pump down cycle. Use pre-pump and start-up checklist.
  • Set up and operate the furnace(s) for melting as directed.
  • Inspect electrodes for melting.
  • Bleed water and vacuum system.
  • Grind electrodes, stubs and copper stools.
  • Clean, paint and maintain crucibles and base plates.
  • Load electrodes.
  • Operate water and vacuum systems.
  • Operate furnace controls and instrumentation.
  • Cool, load, unload, weigh ingots.
  • Interpret video monitors, gauges and meters while operating the VAR furnace(s).
  • Maintain operating records and logs.
  • Maintain material and maintenance needed lists.
  • Perform leak-up rate tests to determine vacuum integrity.
  • Clean out furnaces and crucibles during maintenance cycles and replace damaged components.
  • Use various hand and power tools as directed.
  • Perform maintenance to ensure good operating condition of furnace(s) and auxiliary equipment.
  • Support other departments as needed per production demands.

Job description

  • Cooling, loading, unloading, identifying and weighing ingots
  • Must be able to interpret video monitors, gauges, meters, etc. while operating the VAR furnace(s)
  • Maintain operating records and logs
  • Maintain material and maintenance needed lists
  • Perform leak-up rate tests to determine vacuum integrity
  • Clean out furnaces and crucibles during maintenance cycles and replace damaged components.
  • Use various hand and power tools as directed
  • Performs maintenance required to ensure good operating condition of furnace(s) and auxiliary equipment such as electrical, electronic, vacuum, pneumatic and cooling systems.
  • Support other departments as needed per production demands
Required Skills:
  • Must be mechanically inclined and possess basic math skills.
  • Must be good at following instructions
  • Must be capable of working in a group
  • Ability to lift objects up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to work with heavy rigging, piping. Forklift, crane-operating experience highly preferred.
  • Must be able to think quickly and take action
  • Must be able to wear a respirator.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Strong learning aptitude required
Experience & Education

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $19.50 to $24.50 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter . Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company’s 401(k) plan.
