Job summary

XFive Transportation is seeking a dependable Van Monitor to support drivers on school routes across the South Shore and Greater Boston area. The role focuses on safe, compassionate student transport, with mornings and afternoons on school days and potential summer work.

Responsibilities include assisting students, ensuring proper restraints, and maintaining clear communication with parents and staff. Training is provided, with competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience with children or individuals with special needs preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist students while boarding and exiting the vehicle.
• Ensure students are secured with seat belts or restraints.
• Monitor behavior and maintain a safe, calm environment during transport.
• Assist students with special needs as required by their plans.
• Communicate with parents, school staff, and dispatch.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the vehicle between routes.
• Complete daily transportation documentation.
• Follow safety procedures and emergency protocols.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
• Attend required training and safety meetings.

Position Summary

The Van Monitor assists the driver in safely transporting students to and from school. The primary responsibility is to ensure students remain safe, secure, and comfortable throughout each trip while providing respectful and compassionate support.

Typical schedules include morning and afternoon school routes. Additional field trips or summer work may be available.

Responsibilities

• Assist students while boarding and exiting the vehicle.
• Ensure every student is properly secured using seat belts or child safety restraints.
• Monitor student behavior and maintain a safe, calm environment during transportation.
• Assist students with special needs as required by their individualized transportation plans.
• Communicate professionally with parents, school staff, and dispatch.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the vehicle between routes.
• Complete required daily transportation documentation.
• Follow all company safety procedures and emergency protocols.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
• Attend required training and safety meetings.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience working with children or individuals with special needs is preferred but not required.
• Must possess patience, professionalism, and excellent communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm during emergency situations.
• Reliable transportation to and from assigned vehicle location.
• Must successfully pass:
  • CORI Background Check
  • National Fingerprint Screening (CHRI)
  • Drug Screening (if required)
• CPR and First Aid certification is a plus (training may be provided).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to assist students entering and exiting the vehicle.
• Ability to bend, lift up to 40 pounds, and remain seated or standing for extended periods.
• Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
