Job summary

The County of Kauai is seeking a Van Driver (Substitute) for their Transportation Agency. As a substitute/on-call, you will operate and maintain a passenger van, ensuring safe transport according to assigned schedules.

Your responsibilities will include transporting passengers, assisting those with disabilities, conducting daily vehicle inspections, and maintaining records. Ideal candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have experience in general work activities.

Qualifications

Job Summary

As a substitute/on‑call, operates and maintains a passenger van in transporting passengers along designated destinations according to assigned schedules; and performs other related duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Transports passengers over specified routes.
• May assist disabled passengers into and out of the vehicle.
• May secure a passenger’s wheelchair to restraining devices to stabilize it during the trip.
• May operate radio or similar devices to communicate with base station or other vehicles.
• Conducts daily inspection of the vehicle.
• Services the vehicle.
• Maintains service and passenger trip records.
• Reports defects of the vehicle for appropriate attention and repair.
• Maintains the vehicle in a clean and sanitary condition.
• May make minor and emergency repairs to the van as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Licenses

• Education: graduation from high school or a combination of education and experience substantially equivalent.
• General work experience: one (1) year of general work experience involving basic skills such as reading, writing, computation, and communication.
• License requirement: possession of a valid motor‑vehicle operator’s license (Hawai‘i Type 3 or equivalent) and a valid State of Hawai‘i Department of Transportation Medical Examiner Certificate.

Work Schedule

7 days/week operation; shift work.
