Well-established Oakland, CA nonprofit seeks a Part Time Van Driver.

Organization Description: Here is a chance to make a difference in the lives of our community’s youth: Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland’s mission is to develop our community’s youth into positive contributors to society. To that end, we provide programs and services that are tailored to the special needs of today’s youth and supplementary to the endeavors of our families, our schools, and other community-based organizations. We strive to ensure that each of our young people is given the opportunity to reach her or his fullest potential as effective, goal-oriented young adults who will become responsible members of our society. We currently serve nearly 3,000 youth in Oakland with an outcome-driven Club experience to achieve our primary objectives: Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles.

We have three locations. The successful candidate will be based at the Anna Marie Whalen Branch – 3300 High Street, Oakland, CA. 94619, the Leonard J. Meltzer Branch- 920 24th Street, Oakland, CA. 94607, or the Ossian E. Carr Branch- 8530 International Blvd., Oakland, CA. 94621. PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Responsible for providing daily school-to-Club van transportation services for eligible Club members attending designated feeder schools on a scheduled route.

VAN DRIVER KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  1. Prepare Youth for Success.
  2. Promote safety with ongoing pick-up/drop off of Club members in agency vehicles.
  3. Serve as Boys & Girls Club liaison and representative when interfacing with the general public, school representatives, parents, youth, and community stakeholders.
  4. Orient Club members to the proper safety and cleanliness rules of the vehicle when in transit, when arriving for pick-up, and while parked (“Do not play on or around”).
  5. Keep and maintain service records, gasoline purchase receipts, attendance transportation log, and mileage log.
  6. When needed, pick up and deliver program supplies, equipment, and donated items to requested destination points.
  7. Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  8. Participate in Branch Staff meetings.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. May participate in Club/Organizational special events including the setup and breakdown of such events.
  2. May consult with parents concerning member and branch issues.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.

External: Maintain contact as needed with schools, members’ parents, and others to assist in resolving problems.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  1. Class B driver license and clean DMV report.
  2. Understanding and ability to operate, transport, and promote safety in carrying out transportation duties.
  3. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  4. Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  5. Demonstrated organizational, staff, and project management abilities.
  6. Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.

Employment Status: Part Time

Hourly Wage: $25
