Qualifications

  • Must complete driver training and maintain qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients according to schedules and RMS policies.
  • Contact patients to confirm pickup/drop-off details and changes.
  • Assist passengers entering/exiting vehicle and provide needed support.
  • Ensure seat belts and child restraints are used.
  • Maintain daily vehicle inspections and records (mileage, fuel, maintenance).
  • Keep vehicle clean and report safety concerns promptly.
  • Use navigation, scheduling, and electronic documentation systems.
  • Follow procedures for accidents, emergencies, or delays.
  • Protect patient information and maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Maintain professional relationships with patients and staff.
  • Be flexible to accommodate schedules and patient needs.

Description

Rural Medical Services (RMS) is seeking a dependable and professional Van Driver to provide safe, courteous, non-emergency transportation for patients to and from RMS clinics, specialty medical appointments, and approved social service locations.

The Van Driver plays an important role in helping patients overcome transportation barriers and access the healthcare and services they need.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely transport patients according to assigned schedules, approved routes, RMS policies, and applicable transportation requirements.
  • Contact patients to confirm pickup and drop-off details and communicate schedule changes or delays.
  • Assist passengers with safely entering and exiting the vehicle, including providing additional assistance when needed.
  • Ensure passengers use appropriate seat belts and child restraints.
  • Complete daily vehicle inspections and maintain required transportation, mileage, fuel, and vehicle records.
  • Keep the assigned vehicle clean and sanitary and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Use navigation, scheduling, communication, and electronic documentation systems.
  • Follow appropriate procedures in the event of accidents, emergencies, mechanical problems, or unexpected delays.
  • Protect patient information and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Maintain professional and courteous relationships with patients, coworkers, healthcare providers, and community organizations.
  • Maintain flexibility to accommodate patient pickup and drop-off schedules.
Requirements
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of five years of unrestricted driving experience.
  • Valid Tennessee driver's license.
  • F (for-hire) endorsement or CDL required before independently transporting patients. Candidates who do not currently have an F endorsement must be willing and able to obtain one.
  • Must meet RMS and applicable TNCarrier motor vehicle record requirements.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background and registry checks, drug screening, and physical examination.
  • Must successfully complete required driver training and maintain all required driving qualifications throughout employment.
  • Passenger transportation or van-driving experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the local service area and surrounding communities; familiarity with the Sevierville/Kodak area is preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to safely and respectfully assist patients of varying ages and abilities.
  • Basic computer/mobile device skills, including GPS navigation and electronic documentation.
  • Dependable, professional, and able to work independently while adapting to changing schedules and transportation needs.
  • Must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
