Title: Van Driver

Reports To: ROSS Elderly/Disabled Services Supervisor

Position Type: PART-TIME

Office/Department/Division: Operations/Client Services

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

Responsible for safely transporting residents and program participants to and from each site, ensuring their safety and comfort. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the health and safety of residents and children during hours of operation.
  • Transporting youth and adults to and from residences for program activities, training, or authorized events.
  • Driving safely, taking all safety precautions to avoid accidents, and preventing endangerment of passengers.
  • Assisting elderly and disabled residents on/off the vehicle, handling grocery bags, and alerting medical attention if necessary.
  • Taking full responsibility for passenger security and safety during transport.
  • Maintaining mileage logs and vehicle preventive maintenance records.
  • Submitting fuel receipts and reporting vehicle issues and violations promptly.
  • Maintaining vehicle cleanliness and regulating passenger comfort settings.
  • Inspecting vehicles before trips and following schedules for stops and passenger pick-up.
  • Observing all traffic laws and safety procedures, instructing passengers on boarding and disembarking.
  • Attending required training, testing, and meetings.
  • Maintaining punctuality and performing additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED, with at least 6 months of transportation experience or equivalent education and experience. Must pass pre-employment and ongoing drug testing, and hold a valid Medical Certificate.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to work under stress, handle crowd control, follow instructions, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of safe driving, map reading, GPS use, and vehicle troubleshooting.
  • Clean driving record, no felony or certain misdemeanor convictions within specified timeframes.
  • Neat personal appearance, literacy in English, and ability to relate to diverse populations.
Supervision and Guidelines

Work primarily assigned by the supervisor, following established procedures, with discretion for routine tasks and supervisor guidance for non-routine issues.

Work Scope and Environment

Work affects transportation operations for residents and program participants. Environment includes indoor and outdoor settings, involving driving, weather exposure, and physical exertion, including lifting over 50 lbs.

Other Requirements
  • Possession of or ability to acquire a CDL with passenger endorsement within 18 months.
