Job summary

The Town of Amherst seeks a part-time Van Driver to provide safe, reliable transportation to adults aged 60 and older, as well as individuals with disabilities. The Van Driver will receive a daily schedule of pre-booked rides and may also respond to requests for same-day transportation. This is a part-time, non-benefited position.

Hours are Tuesdays 8:00am-4:00pm, Wednesdays 8:30am-1:00pm, and Thursdays 8:30am-3:00pm, with a hiring range of $15.10-$17.50 per hour depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License.
• Experience safely operating passenger vans and/or wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
• Ability to operate passenger vans and wheelchair-accessible vehicles safely and effectively.
• Willingness to complete required trainings (e.g., safety driving, wheelchair securement, CPR) and provide excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, reliable transportation to adults 60+ and individuals with disabilities.
• Operate pre-booked rides and respond to same-day transportation requests when needed.
• Ensure passenger safety and comfort and comply with department policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver?s License

• Ability to operate passenger vans and wheelchair-accessible vehicles safely and effectively
• Ability to pass motor vehicle driver record check
• Willingness to complete required trainings (e.g., safety driving,wheelchair securement, alcohol & drug awareness, CPR) Excellent customer service skills; Patience and dependability
