Job summary

Bray International, Inc. is seeking a Valve Designer in Houston to create detailed component models, assemblies, and technical drawings of mechanical valves using CAD software. You will work with the design engineering team to ensure accurate documentation and ERP data integrity.

The role requires strong communication, the ability to simplify complex ideas, and adherence to Bray’s drafting standards. Candidates should have CAD proficiency and relevant training or experience in valve design.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; a two-year degree in Mechanical Drafting and Design or related field is highly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience or training with AutoCAD and SolidWorks, including part design, assemblies, and PDM file management.
  • SolidWorks CAD Design Professional and Drawing Tools Professional certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize AutoCAD and SolidWorks to develop detailed 3D models and working drawings of butterfly valves with accurate dimensions.
  • Maintain drawings, assemblies, and BOM records; manage revisions and change orders within Bray ERP.
  • Collaborate with engineers to interpret design intent and resolve design issues.
  • Translate specifications into comprehensive drawings and procedural instructions.
  • Ensure drawings meet engineering standards and tolerances; create exploded views and assembly drawings.
  • Support product validation testing and preparation for third-party facility audits.

Position Overview

As a Valve Designer at Bray International, you will be responsible for creating detailed component models, assemblies, and technical drawings of mechanical valves and associated components. Utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software, you will ensure precise and accurate drawings that guide the manufacturing process. This role requires strong communication skills, a talent for simplifying complex ideas, and experience with standard mechanical design and drafting practices. You will work closely with the technical team and internal departments, ensuring adherence to Bray’s standard practices in maintaining ERP and related data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize advanced CAD programs such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks to develop detailed 3D models and working drawings of various types of butterfly valves, with accurate dimensions and annotations, ensuring all mechanical specifications are met.
  • Work closely with the Design Engineering team to create, store, and maintain thorough records of all drawings, assemblies, and Bill-of-Materials, including revisions and change orders, ensuring all technical documentation is up-to-date electronically within the Bray ERP system.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and other technical teams to understand design intent, discuss modifications, and resolve any design issues.
  • Review and analyze engineering specifications, design documents, and sketches to translate them into comprehensive technical drawings and procedural instructions.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to engineering standards and specifications.
  • Create detailed views of valve components, including sections, exploded views, and assembly drawings to provide clear instructions for manufacturing.
  • Consult technical handbooks and tables throughout the drafting phase to apply proper dimensioning and tolerancing techniques to ensure components fit and function correctly within the valve assembly.
  • Support product validation testing, certification, and preparation for third-party facility audits.

  • Proficient understanding of ASME Y14.5 Drafting Standard and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Mechanical skills related to form, fit, function of assemblies and understanding of valve design concepts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineers and other technical teams to meet project timelines.
  • Knowledge of materials, tolerances, and manufacturing processes, including molding, stamping, casting, machining, and welding.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precise measurements, adherence to processes and regulations, and safety procedures.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to work autonomously with initiative and urgency.
