Job summary

HDR is seeking a Value Engineering/Project Risk Management Intern to gain real-world experience on transportation projects. You will work with multidiscipline teams and under the supervision of a professional or Project Manager.

This internship offers exposure to value engineering workshops, risk analysis, and collaboration with engineers, architects, cost estimators, and stakeholders, with travel to workshops as needed.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects.
  • Mentoring and networking with company leaders.
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Perform assignments under supervision of a professional or Project Manager.
  • Assist VE and Risk Leads in workshop prep and data collection.
  • Provide technical editing for workshop deliverables.
  • Engage in client-attended value engineering and risk analysis workshops.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, architects, cost estimators and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate design across disciplines and travel to attend workshops.

In the role of Value Engineering/Project Risk Management Intern, we'll count on you to:
  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
  • Work with the various VE and Risk Leads in workshop preparation and coordination, collection and generation of information during the workshops
  • Provide technical editing support of workshop deliverables, including reports and presentations
  • Engage and participate in client-attended value engineering and risk analysis workshops
  • Work with multidiscipline teams of engineers, architects, cost estimators and stakeholders, because of the diverse nature of our projects
  • Speak and understand design-related aspects across multiple technical disciplines and provide coordination among disciplines
  • Travel will be required to attend workshops
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
