Job summary

Hamilton Lane is seeking a Valuation Manager to join its private markets team in the United States. You will lead the quarterly, monthly, and daily valuation processes for portfolio company securities, including debt and equity, across diverse geographies and industries.

You will build and refine financial models (DCF, market multiples, precedents) and conduct comprehensive research on securities, industries, and capital markets.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience valuing portfolio companies or illiquid investments.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Strong Excel modeling and financial analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to present to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct valuation analyses of illiquid investments (debt and equity) across industries and geographies.
  • Build, modify, and utilize financial models (DCF, multiples, precedent transactions, equity/debt allocations).
  • Perform market and company research using market data, comps, and credit spreads.
  • Prepare and review valuation reports and presentations for internal/external stakeholders.
  • Mentor and assist junior analysts; support auditor inquiries; manage multiple assignments to meet deadlines.

In this role you will execute and manage the delivery of quarterly, monthly and daily valuations of portfolio company securities. This position offers significant exposure to senior professionals, diverse industries, and complex financial instruments, providing an excellent opportunity for professional growth in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.Responsibilities:Conduct valuation analyses of illiquid investments, including debt and equity securities, across a wide range of industries and geographies.Build, modify, and utilize financial models for estimating business enterprise and equity and debt instrument valuations, including discounted cash flow (DCF), market multiples, precedent transactions, and equity value allocation models.Perform comprehensive research on securities, industries, competitors, and capital markets, including gathering and analyzing market data, comparable ratios, and credit spreads.Review and analyze financial statements, investment memoranda, and transaction documents to develop a thorough understanding of the assets being valued.Prepare and review clear, well-organized valuation reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.Mentor and assist junior analysts in valuation assignments and professional development.Support valuation conclusions and respond to auditor inquiries regarding valuation analyses.Manage multiple assignments and prioritize tasks to meet critical deadlines.Collaborate with team members across the firm to ensure high-quality, timely completion of assignments in a fast-paced environment.Ad-hoc projects, as neededQualifications:Must-haves:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field from an accredited institution.4+ years of experience in portfolio company investment valuation roleExperience as a valuation specialist at an accounting, valuation advisory, or independent asset management firmDemonstrated experience in valuing illiquid or hard-to-value investments.Exposure to a broad range of industries and security typesStrong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.Superior written and verbal communication abilities.Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.Experience managing or mentoring junior team membersAuthorization to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorshipNice-to-haves:Progress toward CFA/ASA/ABV designation or relevant professional certification.Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling, including expertise using market data sources such as S&P Capital IQ.Travel Requirements: N/ABenefitsAt Hamilton Lane, our benefits philosophy is simple: to provide our employees with a competitive suite of benefits and services to help navigate through the complexities and challenges of working, living, raising a family, and eventually retiring.
