SVSU Saginaw Valley State University is seeking a part-time Valley Vanguard Advisor to guide the student newspaper on journalistic practices. Responsibilities include advising staff on editorial decisions, training new members, and monitoring operations to align with the paper's mission.
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications and possess strong writing and editing skills. This role requires proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe software.
Valley Vanguard Advisor (Part Time – 10 hours, Exempt: No, Supervisory Org: University Communications (PM))
General responsibilities include advising the staff of The Valley Vanguard, SVSU's student newspaper, on sound and accepted journalistic practices. The advisor will also assist in the recruitment and training of staff members and monitor the newspaper’s operations to help ensure alignment with the objectives outlined in its Mission and Purpose Statement. In addition, the advisor shares responsibility for ensuring that the Vanguard develops and adheres to an annual budget.
General supervision is received from the Vice President for Communications. Functional supervision is exercised over student employees of the Valley Vanguard.
Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions. All work associated with this role must be performed within the state of Michigan.
