About the role:

We are building the next generation of solid‑state, grid‑interactive power blocks that enable high‑density, flexible power delivery for datacenters, renewable energy systems, and advanced microgrids

The Validation Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and owning system‑level validation activities for Solid‑State Transformer (SST) and microgrid solutions. This role ensures that products meet functional, performance, reliability, and grid‑interaction requirements across simulation, HIL, laboratory, and early field environments.

The Validation Engineer acts as the bridge between design intent and real‑world behavior, working closely with simulation, HIL, controls, hardware, application, and standards teams to verify that system requirements are correctly implemented and robust under normal, abnormal, and fault conditions.

Key responsibilities:
  • Develop validation plans and strategies for SST and microgrid products across development stages.
  • Translate system, functional, and grid‑interaction requirements into clear validation test cases and acceptance criteria.
  • Define validation coverage across:
  • Grid‑connected operation
  • Islanded microgrid operation
  • Mode transitions and recovery
  • Abnormal and fault conditions
  • Execute and coordinate validation activities across multiple platforms, including:
  • Offline simulation (with simulation engineers)
  • Laboratory and hardware‑based testing
  • Ensure consistency and traceability of validation results across simulation, HIL, and hardware.
Functional & Performance Validation
  • Validate system behaviour related to:
  • Voltage, current, and power regulation
  • Dynamic response and transient performance
  • Load changes and operating envelope limits
  • Verify system behaviour against defined requirements and operating scenarios.
Fault, Protection & Abnormal Condition Validation
  • Support validation of:
  • Fault detection and protective actions
  • Recovery and reconnection behaviour
  • Work with HIL and protection teams to validate:
  • Timing, sequencing, and coordination of protective actions
  • Ensure system behaviour is predictable and safe under faulted and stressed conditions.
Standards & Requirement Compliance Support
  • Support validation activities aligned with US interconnection and grid expectations, including:
  • IEEE 1547 / 1547.1 (as applicable)
  • Utility interconnection and operational requirements
  • Provide validation evidence to support:
  • Certification readiness
  • Utility technical reviews
  • Customer acceptance
Issue Tracking & Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Identify, document, and track validation issues and anomalies.
  • Work closely with:
  • Controls and firmware engineers to diagnose behaviour
  • Simulation and HIL engineers to reproduce issues
  • Hardware teams to correlate lab and system‑level results
  • Support root‑cause analysis and verification of corrective actions.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain clear and structured validation documentation, including:
  • Validation plans and test procedures
  • Test results and reports
  • Communicate validation status, risks, and findings to technical stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Power Electronics, or related field.

3+ years of experience in system validation, verification, or test engineering for power or energy systems.

Strong understanding of:

  • Power electronics and inverter‑based systems
  • Grid‑connected and islanded operation
  • Power system dynamics and transient behaviour

Experience working with simulation, HIL, or laboratory validation environments.

Ability to translate high‑level requirements into executable validation activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

Experience validating:

  • SSTs, MV/LV converters, or advanced power conversion systems
  • Microgrids or distribution‑level power systems
Familiarity with
  • HIL platforms (e.g., RTDS)
  • MATLAB/Simulink or EMT‑based simulation tools
  • Protection concepts and fault response of inverter‑based systems
Experience supporting:
  • Certification or interconnection readiness activities

Strong analytical and root‑cause problem‑solving experience.
