Job description

The Validation Engineer owns the validation program for assigned products within Morey's New Product Development team, from requirements analysis and test plan development through execution, failure analysis, and final reporting. The work ensures that Morey's products meet all design requirements, customer specifications, and reliability standards before they ship.

The core of this role is engineering judgment: knowing what to test, how to test it, what the results mean, and what to do when something fails. Hands-on test execution may be involved in this role but the primary contribution is program ownership and the ability to translate design risk into test coverage and test results into engineering decisions.

This role is also a founding member of Morey's validation team. The person in this position will actively contribute to building the standards, processes, and culture of the validation function alongside the Lead Validation Engineer, with the expectation that as the team grows, hands-on lab responsibilities will transition to a dedicated validation technician.

Validation Planning and Documentation
  • Analyze Systems Requirements Specifications to identify testable requirements and flag ambiguous or untestable requirements for clarification
  • Author Functional Test Procedures with clear test steps, expected results, and unambiguous pass/fail criteria
  • Develop and maintain DVP&R documents mapping requirements to test methods, acceptance criteria, and measured results
  • Maintain Requirements Traceability Matrix experience
  • Participate in DFMEA sessions contributing validation perspective on detection controls, testability, and risk coverage
  • Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation including test reports, failure analyses, and risk assessments
  • Archive all validation documentation per Morey's IT&V process ensuring full traceability for quality audits and customer evidence packages
Test Execution and Failure Analysis
  • Execute functional, environmental, and reliability tests, thermal cycling, vibration, humidity, salt spray, power input stress, CAN interface, and functional performance
  • Set up and operate test benches including thermal chambers, STD event detectors, power supplies, oscilloscopes, CAN analysis tools, and data acquisition systems
  • Conduct structured failure analysis — isolate the failure, gather diagnostic data, characterize the failure mode, and support root cause investigation with design engineering
  • Document test anomalies with sufficient detail for engineering review and corrective action
  • Transition test execution responsibilities to a validation technician as the team grows while retaining full program ownership
Function Building and Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to developing Morey's validation standards, FTP templates, DVP&R frameworks, and best practices
  • Participate in FTP peer reviews as both author and reviewer, upholding the quality standard of the IT&V function
  • Identify gaps in test coverage, lab capability, or process and bring specific, actionable recommendations to the Lead Validation Engineer
  • Stay current with relevant industry standards - IPC, SAE, ISO, IATF and identify opportunities to strengthen Morey's validation approach
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related
  • 3+ years of experience in validation or test engineering for electronic or electromechanical products
  • Experience writing Functional Test Procedures or test specifications with clear, unambiguous acceptance criteria
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, system requirements documents, and technical specifications
  • Hands-on proficiency with test instrumentation — oscilloscopes, power supplies, data acquisition systems, CAN tools
  • Strong documentation discipline — test logs, failure reports, DVP&R population, and traceability records maintained to audit-ready standard
  • Structured analytical approach to failure analysis — able to isolate failures, characterize failure modes, and support root cause investigation
  • Self-directed and effective in a lean environment where the function is actively being defined
  • Clear written and verbal communication — able to present test results and validation status to engineering and leadership audiences
