Job summary

The Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC is seeking a VAD Coordinator APP/PA to collaborate with patients and a multidisciplinary Heart Failure and cardiothoracic teams. The VAD NP/PA performs exams, coordinates care, orders, and educates staff and families across inpatient and outpatient settings.

The role requires NP or PA credentials, BLS/ACLS, and experience with VAD care; ongoing clinical leadership and program improvement are core aspects of the position.

Qualifications

• MSN or DNP for adult care NP track or ARC-accredited PA program
• National Certification as NP for adult care (e.g., AGNP, AGACNP, ANP, FNP) or PA-C for PA track
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Experience with ventricular assist device (VAD) care preferred but new grads with relevant nursing experience may be considered

Responsibilities

• Conduct rounds and assess patients with VADs in inpatient and outpatient settings
• Perform history, physicals, and document impressions and plans
• Order, monitor, and interpret tests; coordinate labs and consults
• Provide training to patients, families, and staff on VAD systems and alarm management
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in quality improvement initiatives
