Job summary

Ionbond – The Surface Engineers is seeking a Surface Engineering Process Specialist (Vacuum Deposition) for our West Chicago facility. You will be the go-to process expert for PVD operations, partnering with the Plant Manager to move applications from pilot to production and drive continuous improvement across yield, quality, and flow.

You will deploy Lean tools, maintain the ISO 9001:2016 Quality System, and mentor colleagues in procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or physical sciences.
• 3+ years in vacuum coating with thin-film specialization; hands-on PVD system experience.
• Fluency with quality methods and problem solving (8D, Fishbone, 5 Whys).
• APQP experience, including PFMEA and Control Plans.
• Mechanical design capability; AutoCAD or similar.
• Willingness to travel ~10% (US and international).

Responsibilities

• Own theQuality Management System upkeep to ISO 9001:2016 and train colleagues on procedures and work instructions.
• Lead Lean initiatives: 5S, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping to improve yield and flow.
• Act as the process expert for PVD operations at the West Chicago coating center.
• Manage small-to-medium projects and support other plant activities as needed.
