Job summary

Whitaker Construction in Utah is seeking a Vac Truck Operator to safely operate vacuum excavation equipment on civil, utility, and infrastructure projects. You will expose underground utilities, perform potholing, trenching, and site preparation while maintaining safety and clear communication with field leadership.

Daily duties include daylighting, utility locating, driving and maintaining vac truck systems, completing DOT documentation, and coordinating with crews.

Qualifications

• Must have valid driver's license and medical card.
• Experience operating vac trucks or similar heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of underground utility locating preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving.
• Ability to read job site plans.
• Commitment to safety and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate vacuum trucks and equipment.
• Perform daylighting, potholing, trenching.
• Locate underground utilities without damage.
• Maintain safety around personnel and equipment.
• Coordinate with supervisors and crews daily.
• Assist with general labor when not operating.
• Inspect and maintain vac systems.
• Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections.
• Complete DOT documentation.
• Dispose of materials per environmental regs.
• Keep logs of work performed.
• Follow safety policies and regulations.
• Participate in safety meetings and training.
• Maintain clean truck/work area.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
