Job summary

Wargaming is seeking an experienced UX Researcher to champion player needs and inform product decisions for live-service and in-development titles. You will plan, run, and synthesize studies across the product lifecycle, including usability testing, playtesting, and interviews, with strong moderation and clear, actionable insights for game teams.

Based in a hybrid Austin office, you will collaborate with the Center for Player Insights and report to the Director of Player Insights.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on UX or user research experience in a business environment with end-to-end ownership of studies.
  • Experience running in-lab and remote playtests, usability studies, focus groups, and one-on-one interviews with strong moderation.
  • Ability to frame research questions, define hypotheses and sampling plans, and translate stakeholder needs into actionable objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Research Operations on recruitment and incentives; ensure ethics and data privacy.
  • Synthesize insights tailored to game teams; prioritize findings for action.
  • Contribute to research strategy and evangelize user-centric development across Wargaming.
  • Stay current on industry trends and play Wargaming titles to deepen product understanding.
  • Occasionally adjust working hours for participant availability, including late evenings on weekdays.

Job Overview

Wargaming's Center for Player Insights is hiring an experienced UX Researcher to champion player needs and inform product decisions across live-service and in-development titles.

Reports to

Director of Player Insights

What will you do?
  • Plan, design, and run research across the product lifecycle, including usability testing, playtesting, longitudinal or diary studies, concept testing, focus groups, and one-on-one interviews, both in person and remotely.
  • Translate stakeholder questions into clear business goals and research objectives. Define research hypotheses and sampling plans.
  • Manage studies end-to-end, including scoping, design, recruiting oversight, moderation, analysis, reporting, and presentations. Drive timelines and keep stakeholders aligned across multiple projects.
  • Partner with Research Operations on participant recruitment and incentives, and lab or remote setups. Uphold research ethics and data privacy best practices.
  • Synthesize and communicate actionable insights and recommendations tailored to game teams, ensuring findings are clear, prioritized, and easy to act on.
  • Contribute to the Center for Player Insights' research strategy and evangelize user-centric development across Wargaming.
  • Stay current on industry trends and play Wargaming titles to build deep product understanding.
  • Be willing to occasionally adjust working hours for participant availability with advance notice, including late evenings on weekdays.
What are we looking for?
  • 2+ years of hands-on UX or user research experience in a business environment, with demonstrated end-to-end ownership of studies, independently scoping and delivering research.
  • Experience running in-lab and remote playtests, usability studies, focus groups, and one-on-one interviews, including strong moderation skills.
  • Strong grasp of UX research theory and qualitative methods, and ability to select the right approach for the question at hand.
  • Ability to frame research questions, define hypotheses and sampling plans, and translate stakeholder needs into actionable research objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills, including clear writing, confident facilitation, and engaging presentations to cross-functional teams.
  • Strong project management skills, able to run multiple studies concurrently, meet deadlines, and keep stakeholders aligned.
  • Collaborative, curious, and detail-oriented. Enjoy solving complex problems and working closely with others.
  • Able to quickly build rapport and credibility with diverse participants and stakeholders.
  • Passion for video games and player experience.
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken.
  • US work authorization: You are able to join the team without going through additional authorization.
What additional skills will help you stand out?
  • Experience working with multicultural, globally distributed teams and across time zones.
  • Understanding of the game development process, live-service, and free-to-play (F2P) models.
  • Experience playing Wargaming titles.
  • Experience conducting longitudinal studies and complex playtesting programs.
  • Comfort using AI tools to improve research workflows while maintaining research rigor, ethics, and data privacy.
  • Ability to mentor peers or contribute to team research standards and best practices.
  • Leadership skills or interest in growing into broader ownership over research initiatives.
  • Fluency in languages other than English.
Work mode

Hybrid (3 days of work from Austin office, Tuesday - Thursday)
