Job summary

Cambridge is seeking a User Experience Intern to support the UX/UI Design team in evolving and maintaining the enterprise design system. You’ll gain hands-on experience building scalable UI components in Figma and collaborating with designers and engineers to deliver consistent digital experiences.

This 11-week paid summer internship (May 17 – July 30) is on-site in Phoenix, AZ. You are an undergraduate student in UX/UI or related fields with a portfolio, and you’ll learn design system

Job Summary

The User Experience Intern will support Cambridge’s User Experience and Product Design team in evolving and maintaining the enterprise design system. This internship offers hands‑on experience creating scalable user interface components in Figma while building practical skills in UI design, accessibility, collaboration, and systems thinking. The intern will work alongside designers and engineers to help deliver consistent digital experiences across Cambridge products.

Key Deliverables and Responsibilities

• Review and refine reusable user interface components to improve usability, accessibility, and consistency across Cambridge digital products.
• Create and maintain enterprise‑scale design system components in Figma while applying scalable UI design patterns and visual design principles.
• Support design system documentation and usage guidelines so designers and engineers can apply components consistently and effectively.
• Collaborate with designers and engineers to understand how cross‑functional teams build, maintain, and scale cohesive digital experiences.
• Use the Cambridge Enterprise Design System, Microsoft Copilot, and other approved AI tools to support design exploration and execution.

What We Are Looking For

• Current undergraduate student pursuing UX/UI Design, Human‑Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Product Design, Graphic Design with a digital or UI emphasis, or a related field.
• Strong working knowledge of Figma and a portfolio demonstrating user interface design skills and systems thinking.
• Understanding of design system principles, reusable component design, and accessible digital experiences.
• Visual design skills, attention to detail, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and incorporate feedback.
• Comfort using AI tools to support design work and problem‑solving.

Program Summary

Cambridge’s Next Step 11‑week paid summer internship program (May 17 – July 30) gives students the opportunity to gain valuable insight into both their chosen field and the financial service industry while working on meaningful projects that contribute to business outcomes. Each intern is partnered with a professional mentor and participates in our professional development program, which includes industry education, career workshops, leadership panels, and networking events. Nearly 30% of interns return to Cambridge as full‑time associates.

Location

All internships are on‑site, operating out of our Phoenix, AZ or Fairfield, IA offices. Apartment‑style housing is available for Fairfield candidates, and some positions may be eligible to work out of our West Des Moines satellite office.

Work Authorization

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. We are unable to accommodate temporary student work authorizations, including initial Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Posting Window

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in November. Internships are expected to remain posted until January 15, but may close earlier if filled.

Compensation

• Salary: $17-$26 per hour depending upon location, role, and year in school.
• Interns also receive 2 paid holidays and 2 days of paid time off across the summer.
