Cambridge’s Next Step data engineering internship is a hands-on role in Phoenix, AZ, designed to support BI and Insights with enterprise data pipelines and cloud integrations. You will collaborate with data architects and engineers to build AI-ready data for reporting and analytics.

The 11-week program runs May 17 – July 30, offering mentorship, professional development, and potential full-time opportunities. Interns work on-site with housing options in some cases.

Qualifications

Job Summary

The Data Engineering Intern will support the Business Intelligence and Insights team and collaborate with Data Architecture and Engineering team members to build and maintain enterprise data solutions. This internship offers hands‑on experience developing cloud data pipelines, integrations, and data quality frameworks that support trusted, AI‑ready data, enterprise reporting, and analytics.

Key Deliverables and Responsibilities

Develop and test data pipelines that ingest, transform, and curate data within Cambridge’s cloud data platform.

Build and maintain API integrations and ETL/ELT workflows with guidance from data architects and engineers.

Support data quality and data governance processes that improve the reliability and accessibility of enterprise data.

Collaborate with data architects, engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable data solutions.

Document data solutions and contribute to enterprise reporting and analytics initiatives.

Use technologies such as SQL, Python, Snowflake, Azure, Event Hubs, Kafka, dbt, Git, Azure DevOps, Confluence, CI/CD, and database change management tools.

What We Are Looking For

Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing Data Engineering, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Experience with or coursework in Python, SQL, cloud technology, or data engineering concepts.

Interest in developing data pipelines, APIs, ETL/ELT workflows, and cloud‑based data solutions.

Understanding of data governance and data quality principles.

Analytical thinking, attention to detail, problem‑solving ability, and a willingness to learn.

Ability to collaborate effectively in an enterprise data environment.

Program Summary:

Cambridge’s Next Step 11‑week paid summer internship program (May 17 – July 30) gives students the opportunity to gain valuable insight into both their chosen field and the financial service industry while working on meaningful projects that contribute to business outcomes. Each intern is partnered with a professional mentor and participates in our professional development program, which includes industry education, career workshops, leadership panels, and networking events. Nearly 30% of interns return to Cambridge as full‑time associates.

Location:

All internships are on‑site, operating out of our Phoenix, AZ or Fairfield, IA offices. Apartment‑style housing is available for Fairfield candidates, and some positions may be eligible to work out of our West Des Moines satellite office.

Work Authorization:

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. We are unable to accommodate temporary student work authorizations, including initial Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Posting Window:

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in November. Internships are expected to remain posted until January 15, but may close earlier if filled. Candidates are encouraged to apply early for greatest consideration.

Compensation:

Compensation: $17-$26 per hour depending upon location, role, and year in school. Interns also receive 2 paid holidays and 2 days of paid time off across the summer.
