Job summary

Cengage Group, a global edtech company, is seeking a UX Design Director in the United States. You will shape the future of educational technology, set design strategy, lead a team of designers, and establish high-quality design standards across products.

You will mentor and grow talent, collaborate with product/engineering/marketing leadership, and apply data-driven insights to improve user experiences. Compensation includes a base pay range and an annual bonus plan.

Qualifications

• Senior UX design leadership experience with 3+ years of people management leading design teams of 10+.
• Deep expertise in UX/UI design principles and human-centered design methodologies.
• Strong mentoring and leadership capabilities; proven ability to develop high-performing teams.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills; ability to influence and partner across functions.
• A portfolio is required to be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

• Lead design by empowering your team to create modern, data-informed experiences that solve complex problems.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Marketing to align priorities and embed UX principles throughout development.
• Guide from early concepts to polished solutions with scalable design patterns.
• Set and evolve UX standards and guidelines for consistent, high-quality experiences.
• Continuously evaluate the customer experience using data and insights to drive improvements.
• Stay ahead of design trends, AI, and new tools to advance the design practice.
• Use design as a competitive advantage by differentiating products through design.
• Develop talent by coaching and mentoring your team to expand impact.
