Job summary

Brigham Young University (BYU) seeks a part-time UTTR Field Manager (28 hours/week) to support wildlife surveys, environmental monitoring, and field data collection at the Utah Test and Training Range. You will coordinate crews, maintain data processes, and assist with reports for Hill Air Force Base and USFWS.

Essential duties include data entry, equipment management, and training supervision, with a focus on safety and accuracy in challenging field conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in range management, wildlife biology, conservation biology or related fields.
• Experience with plants and animals and knowledge of identification.
• Ability to perform data collection in harsh conditions safely.
• Operate trucks on dirt roads and drive ATVs; ATV training/certification may be required.
• Basic understanding of creating year-end reports.

UTTR Field Manager (part-time, 28 hours/week)

Join a hands-on research team supporting wildlife surveys, environmental monitoring, and field data collection at the Utah Test and Training Range. This position works alongside full-time and student technicians and provides essential support to a full-time research staff member. The UTTR Field Manager helps ensure field projects are conducted safely, accurately, and efficiently-from collecting and managing data to coordinating crews, maintaining equipment, and supporting reports for Hill Air Force Base and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

What you'll do in this position:

• Collect, record, and verify field data according to established protocols
• Assist with wildlife surveys, environmental monitoring, and related field activities
• Enter, organize, maintain, and quality-check field data and records
• Maintain databases, spreadsheets, equipment inventories, and other project systems
• Prepare data and summaries for analysis, reporting, and project partners
• Assist with training, assigning, supervising, and coordinating field crews
• Maintain, inspect, organize, and prepare field equipment and supplies
• Support project reports, documentation, and general administrative needs

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

• A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
• Bachelor's degree in range management, wildlife biology, conservation biology and related fields
• Experience working with plants and animals and knowledge of plant and wildlife identification
• Performing data collection in harsh conditions safely
• Operating trucks on dirt roads and driving ATVs; having ATV training and certification will need to be completed before field work
• A basic understanding of how to create year-end reports

Preferred

• Experience working in the field collecting plant and animal data, leading and supervising field crews, and managing budgets to support program goals
• Current drivers license
• ATV certification
• Ability to perform basic computer operations including a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word

Pay Grade: 46

Typical Starting Pay: $16.50 to $21.25 an hour
