NC State University in Raleigh, NC is seeking a UTS - Temporary Landscape Maintenance Technician to perform grounds care across campus. You will operate mowing and trimming equipment, prepare planting beds, and assist turf establishment under supervision.
The role requires a high school diploma or GED, ability to lift heavy objects, and a valid NC driver's license. Some positions may require a pesticide license or CDL; safety is emphasized and teamwork is KEY on a busy campus.
Landscape & Turf Operations: Expertly operate mowers, blowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, edgers, and utility vehicles to deliver high-quality mowing, trimming, edging, and general grounds care.
Plant Care & Grounds Prep: Prepare planting beds and install varied flora—including annuals, perennials, bulbs, sod, trees, and shrubs—bringing landscape designs to life under the guidance of the Field Lead.
Turf Management: Assist in turf establishment and restoration through professional sod installation and seeding techniques.
Equipment Care & Maintenance: Perform routine preventive maintenance on tools and machinery, ensuring all equipment remains safe, clean, and fully operational while promptly flagging repair needs.
Site Sanitation & Cleanup: Maintain immaculate work sites, vehicles, and campus grounds through diligent leaf, debris, and waste removal.
Safety & Incident Reporting: Champion a culture of safety by strictly following safety protocols and proactively reporting any hazards, accidents, or equipment damage.
Teamwork & Campus Engagement: Collaborate effectively with crew members and represent the department with clear, courteous, and professional communication across the campus community.

Other Work/Responsibilities
High school or General Educational Development ( GED ) diploma and possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: North Carolina Pesticide License may be required and can be obtained within six months of employment; North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License may be required.

Be able to verbally communicate effectively with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
Experience with landscaping and grounds maintenance.
