NC State University is seeking reliable Groundskeepers to join the Lonnie Poole Golf Course crew in Raleigh, NC. This hourly, temporary role focuses on turf care, landscaping, and course maintenance, including mowing, sodding, and upkeep.

The position requires physical outdoor labor, early mornings, weekends, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. It offers a State-mandated break after 11 months and potential renewal or transition to a permanent role based on performance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
• Experience working on a golf course environment.

Essential Job Duties

The Lonnie Poole Golf Course is seeking reliable and energetic individuals to Join our Pack as a Groundskeeper.

• Landscaping and sodding.
• Applying fertilizer and pesticides on and around the course under the direct supervision of an employee who is licensed in Ornamental & Turf Pest Control.
• Cutting grass on the tee boxes, fairways, roughs, fringes and greens.
• Golf course upkeep.
• Sprinkler system maintenance, fencing and tree trimming.

Equipment used includes, but not limited to, walking and riding mowers, tee mowers, fairway mowers, rough mowers, rollers, bunker rakes, carts, push mowers and a variety of powered and non-powered hand tools.

As a temporary employee, you are eligible for the following temporary employee perks designed to enhance your personal and professional well-being.

This is an hourly position, that includes a State required 32-day break at the end of 11 months. Superior work performance may provide an opportunity to renew employment and/or advance into a benefits eligible permanent position.

Position Details

• Type: Hourly / Temporary.
• Location: On-Campus (NC State University).
• Term Limit: Per State policy, temporary roles include a mandatory 31-day break after 24 months of continuous service. Superior performance offers opportunities to re-hire or transition to permanent roles.

Minimum Experience/Education

• High School Diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Department Required Skills

• Be dependable, manage time efficiently, and work independently to complete daily activities and assignments according to work schedule.
• Use equipment and tools properly and safely.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time in outside conditions, and perform strenuous physical labor.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs without assistance frequently.
• Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the public.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

• Experience working in a golf course environment.
• Experience performing the following work duties: landscaping; sodding; applying fertilizer and pesticides on and around the course; cutting grass on the tee boxes, fairways, roughs, fringes and greens; golf course upkeep, sprinkler system maintenance, fencing, tree trimming.
• Previous experience using any of the following equipment: walking and riding mowers, tee mowers, fairway mowers, rough mowers, rollers, bunker rakes, carts, push mowers and a variety of powered and non-powered hand tools.

Valid NC Driver's License required: No.

Commercial Driver's License Required: No.
