Job summary

San Antonio Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is seeking a Utilization Review (UR) Coordinator to bridge clinical staff, patients, and insurers. You will evaluate medical records, secure authorizations, and manage costs while maintaining quality care at our San Antonio facility.

You will review patient charts for medical necessity, coordinate with treatment teams, and ensure documentation meets regulatory and insurer standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience in behavioral healthcare preferred.
• CPR certification and de-escalation training before orientation.

Responsibilities

• Submit clinical documentation for prior authorization and certification.
• Evaluate medical necessity by reviewing patient charts.
• Ensure HIPAA and insurance compliance in documentation.
• Liaise between clinical staff, billing, and payers.
• Attend interdisciplinary treatment team to align care with approved insurance days.
• Track length of stay against insurance timelines.
• Advise on missing documentation for continued care to insurers.
• Prepare urgent clinical appeal packets within tight windows.
