Job summary

Mesa Public Schools is seeking a Utility Worker - Maintenance in Mesa, AZ to perform maintenance, repairs and installations on equipment not requiring journeyman skills. Immediate start with a full-time schedule (40 hours per week).

Applicants should have a High School education or equivalent, a valid Arizona driver’s license, and maintenance experience. Benefits include retirement, health and life insurance, paid leave, and annual performance pay.

Responsibilities

  • Regular and on-time attendance required.
  • Perform other related duties to ensure efficient operation of the work unit.
  • Assist with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area and Mesa Public Schools.

New Hire Experience

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to aten-year maximum

1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Job Summary

To perform maintenance, repairs and installations on all types of equipment not requiring the skills of a journeyman.

Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Maintenance. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Travel throughout the district assisting journeymen with their assigned tasks
  • Perform maintenance, repairs and installations on all types of equipment, individually or with others, not requiring the skills of a journeyman
  • Rotate between operations shops according to Director of Maintenance
  • Regular and on-time attendance required
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
  • Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
Required Qualifications
  • High School education or equivalent
  • Valid Arizona driver's license
  • Experience in the maintenance field

  • General knowledge of electrical, plumbing and fabrications and broad knowledge of sheet metal and welding helpful

  • Ability to work at heights on a ladder
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Indoor and outdoor settings across school campuses, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, maintenance rooms, and athletic fields
  • Exposure to various weather conditions while working outdoors
  • Potential exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, mold, and other environmental elements.
  • Noisy environments due to equipment or student activity
  • May involve working in confined or elevated spaces (e.g., crawl spaces, rooftops, ladders)
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 50 pounds or more
