Job summary

Georgia State University is seeking a dedicated Utility Worker II to join the Building Services Department at the Dunwoody Campus. This full-time role supports campus operations, with a schedule Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and a competitive salary plus great benefits.

Responsibilities include moving, delivering, and assembling items; transporting mail; assisting in special projects and events; handling recyclable materials; logging deliveries; and assisting with emergency preparations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with at least 1 year of moving/delivering/assembling experience.
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs or more and perform heavy manual tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Move, deliver, and assemble campus items such as furniture, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist in removing surplus items and transporting mail to the Post Office.
  • Set up and move furniture for events, graduations, and special projects.
  • Collect recyclable materials and label materials and cases as needed.
  • Schedule maintenance of University vehicles and ensure deliveries are logged.
  • Deliver orders to satellite offices and obtain signatures on receiving reports.
  • Load/unload delivery vehicles and assist with emergency preparations.

The Building Services Department is seeking (1) Utility Worker II to join the already awesome team, taking the Building Maintenance Department to the next level of excellence!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The ideal candidate will perform duties such as moving, delivering, or assembling items on campus property. Items may include furniture, equipment, supplies, trash, recyclable materials, bookcases, cabinets, displays, and mailings. In addition to supporting the departments, Utility Worker II will also:

  • Assists in removing surplus items from campus departments or offices.
  • Transports large mailings to the Post Office.
  • Assists in special projects, such as graduation ceremonies, by setting up and moving furniture.
  • Collects recyclable materials from campus buildings.
  • Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other
    containers.
  • Schedules the routine maintenance of University vehicles and delivers them for servicing; cleans
    vehicles when required.
  • Matches completed receiving reports with the appropriate orders to be delivered to the departments.
  • Records the delivery of orders onto the delivery log sheet.
  • Delivers items to the Georgia State University (GSU) satellite offices and departments; obtains the appropriate signatures on the receiving reports.
  • Loads and unloads delivery vehicles with orders for campus departments; receives outgoing
    shipments from campus departments.
  • Assists in emergency preparations, such as clearing sidewalks and driveways.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Hiring Standards (MHS):
  • High school diploma or GED and one year of experience in moving, delivering, and/or assembling equipment, furniture, and other large items.
  • A valid Georgia driver's license is required.
Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the Georgia State University campus.
  • Ability to operate warehouse and delivery equipment, such as large trucks, forklifts, and hand trucks.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and strenuous manual tasks.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs or more.
