Cobb County Government seeks a Maintenance Technician for the Water System's Maintenance Division. This role involves installing and repairing crucial water and sewer infrastructure while adhering to safety protocols. The ideal candidate must have a high school diploma and relevant experience, with the ability to handle physical demands and operate specialized tools in varied conditions.
This position is located in the Cobb County Water System, System Maintenance Division.

Our 10-hour shifts a week, Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, from 6:30 am to 5 pm. This position works shift rotations that include working days, nights, call-outs, standby, holidays, and weekends in any region assigned.
Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing water and sewer lines and related system components. Tasks involve locating manholes, service connections, valves, and other utilities; assisting with sewer tap installations; clearing debris; inspecting and evaluating system conditions; diagnosing leaks and blockages; excavating; installing repair fittings; replacing service lines; performing confined space entries; cleaning manholes and lines; and changing manhole lids.
Additional duties include gathering tools and equipment, transporting materials, performing preventive maintenance, and notifying supervisors of repairs. The role also involves performing related activities such as saw cutting driveways and sidewalks, restoring landscapes, installing sod or seed, and operating various equipment like cameras, jet hoses, jackhammers, and saws.
Safety adherence is crucial, including monitoring work environments, flagging traffic, and wearing protective gear. Emergency coverage and standby work are required as scheduled.
The manual work involves installing and repairing pipes, sewer taps, manholes, and valve boxes, clearing obstructions, assisting with site preparation, and documenting locations using GPS. The role also includes assessing sewer infrastructure using visual and electronic methods, smoke testing, and entering manholes for flow measurements and CCTV inspections.
Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED; experience in construction or infrastructure maintenance is preferred. A valid driver’s license is preferred. Certifications in Confined Space Entry, Trenching and Excavation, and Flagger are required within nine months of hire.
The physical demands involve heavy exertion, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting objects up to 100 pounds.
Sensory requirements include perceiving colors, odors, sounds, textures, and visual cues, along with oral communication skills.
Environmental factors may expose workers to dirt, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, hazardous materials, heights, confined spaces, machinery, and other risks.
