About Our Job

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $20.00-$23.00 an hour. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees, including:

Location

This position requires on-site work 5 days a week.

The Solid Waste Management team provides trash collection, hazardous waste removal, recycling, and composting for Denver homes and facilities. The Utility Worker I will assist with general labor, safety, and related tasks, working on a crew with Equipment Operators. Job duties include:

  • Lifting and emptying heavy waste containers, operating hydraulic compaction units, and washing trucks.
  • Handling special collections like dead animals, e-waste, or large items.
  • Performing unskilled physical labor on construction, maintenance, and repair projects, including manual tool use.
  • Assisting skilled workers with minor repairs to buildings and facilities.
  • Maintaining gardening and grounds equipment, vehicles, and machinery.
  • Operating small engine-powered maintenance equipment.
  • Conducting pre-trip inspections of equipment.
  • Placing and removing traffic safety devices.
  • Performing exterior maintenance such as gardening, litter pickup, and dumpster area cleaning.
  • Using hand-operated construction tools.
  • Performing seasonal duties like salting and snow removal.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
