Augusta Water seeks a dedicated maintenance worker to perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in maintaining sewer and water lines and related facilities in Augusta County, Virginia.
Responsibilities include trenching, pipe laying, service connections, hydrant installation, truck operation, and tool usage. A high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of heavy manual labor experience are required. CDL Class A with Tanker Endorsement and VA license are necessary.
To perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the maintenance of sewer and water lines, construction of water and sewer lines, installation of new water and sewer services, and related facilities. May be required to excavate, clear and smooth trenches, lay pipe, assist with making new connections, repair breaks in water or sewer lines, install fire hydrants, load and unload materials, and clean up job site. May operate pickup trucks, dump trucks, high velocity water trucks, lowboy and sewer vacuum truck. May use a variety of hand tools, including but not limited to, soil tamper, air drill, and pavement breaker.
High school graduate or equivalent. Must have at least two (2) years’ experience in heavy manual labor.
Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license. Must possess or obtain within six (6) – twelve (12) months of employment, a valid Class A (combination vehicle) Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement for vehicles with Air Brakes as a condition of successful job performance and continued employment. Must have the ability to communicate both verbally and written, read in English to understand direction and procedures, and to communicate to others. Must understand basic mathematics, mechanical knowledge, and the use of general hand tools. Must have the ability to perform several tasks at the same time, be able to work independently with minimum supervision, and exhibit a positive attitude to effectively deal with the public, agency officials, and co-workers.
