We are recruiting Utility Workers at the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA). This position is available internally and externally and is part of the Amalgamated Transit Union, Division 618 (ATU 618). All applicable Bargaining Unit Selection Criteria will be considered when reviewing applications.

Position Details

• Position Title: Utility Worker
• Posting Period: July 6, 2024 through July 4, 2025
• Salary Range: $46,696.00 to $62,254.40 annually
• Reports To: Utility Foreman
• Union Affiliation: Amalgamated Transit Union 618 (ATU 618)
• Additional Notes: Employees hired or transferred into this position may not transfer to other departments until they have worked in the Utility Department for at least one year. Absences during this period may extend the one-year commitment unless designated as FMLA or Workers Compensation.

Job Responsibilities

The Utility Worker is responsible for assisting with vehicle and facility maintenance, including fueling buses, checking fluids and tire pressure, cleaning buses, assisting in parts room, and performing janitorial tasks at RIPTA facilities.

Shifts may vary (day, evening, night, weekends, holidays) and assignments may be at Providence or Newport campuses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Fuel buses, check fluids, tires, and vacuum interiors during fueling.
• Drive vehicles through automatic washers.
• Clean vehicle interiors, including dusting, sweeping, and removing graffiti.
• Operate floor cleaning equipment.
• Clean vehicle parts using steam cleaning equipment.
• Perform janitorial duties within RIPTA facilities.
