Job summary

Sonoco in Newport, TN is seeking a Utility Worker for our paper mill operations. The role pays $22.93 per hour and requires rotating 12-hour shifts, including nights. You’ll assist with rewinding, slitting, loading, and keeping the production area clean, supporting daily output and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist in rewinding, slitting, strapping rolls.
• Assist in removing broke, tagging, weighing, and storing materials.
• Assist in loading trucks.
• Cut cores on weekends and nights.
• Keep paper machine area neat and orderly.
• Unload incoming waste paper and supply scrap to pulpers.
• Spot trailers for loading/unloading; clean facilities as required.

The Newport, TN paper mill has an opening for a Utility Worker. This position reports to the Plant Superintendent.

What you'll be doing:

• Assisting in rewinding, slitting, strapping rolls.
• Assists in for removing broke., tagging, weighing, and storing in proper place.
• Assists in loading trucks.
• Responsible for cutting cores on weekends and on nights
• Responsible for keeping paper machine area neat and orderly.
• Unloading incoming waste paper.
• Supplying waste paper and scrap to pulpers.
• Spotting trailers for loading and unloading.
• Cleaning basement, canteen, rest rooms, plant grounds, and other areas as required.
• May be assigned to fill a vacancy during absences.
• Performs these and similar related duties as assigned

• You have the ability to manually push, pull, and lift some equipment and materials as needed. In all instances that a mechanical means is possible, it is done in this manner, but some manual exertion is still required.
• Have an excellent work history in the areas of safety and attendance
• Are able to work a 12 hour shift rotation, holidays, weekends and overtime
