Job summary

Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) is seeking a Facilities Utility Worker to help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming campus spaces. You will perform a range of cleaning, maintenance, and safety tasks, often working independently or with the Facilities team to support students, staff, and visitors.

This second shift (3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.) starts on or before November 1, 2026, with emphasis on reliability, attention to detail, and teamwork, plus opportunities for growth and comprehensive

Responsibilities

  • Report building maintenance issues and safety concerns.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with furniture moving and room setups.
  • Remove snow and ice from walkways during winter months.
  • Maintain exterior areas including sweeping and trash removal.
  • Replace light bulbs and perform basic lighting maintenance.
  • Clean entrance mats and runners.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Use personal protective equipment as required.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas.
  • Report safety hazards and concerns.
  • Secure buildings and rooms as assigned.
  • Monitor building security during shifts.
  • Respond to emergency cleaning situations.
  • Participate in safety training programs.
  • Assist with deep cleaning projects.
  • Support event setup and teardown.
  • Perform floor care including stripping and waxing.
  • Help with painting and touch-up work.
  • Participate in seasonal cleaning projects.
  • Support renovation and moving projects.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance as needed.
  • Complete special cleaning requests.
  • Complete cleaning checklists and logs.
  • Report supply needs and inventory.
  • Document maintenance issues.
  • Communicate with supervisor about work progress.
  • Respond to work orders and requests.
  • Maintain accurate records of tasks completed.
  • Report accidents or incidents promptly.
  • Participate in team meetings and training.

The Facilities Utility Worker position is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities for students, staff, and visitors of the college. This position performs a variety of, maintenance, and utility duties to ensure high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and facility upkeep. The role requires attention to detail, reliability, and a strong commitment to workplace safety and customer service. This position may work independently or as part of a team and may be assigned to different shifts and locations as needed.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Building Maintenance:
  • Report building maintenance issues and safety concerns

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year custodial or related experience
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Physical ability to perform essential job functions
  • Available to work assigned shift
  • Basic computer skills for email and work orders
  • Experience with cleaning equipment and chemicals
Supplemental Information

The Utility Worker position works second shift - 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and supports the WCTC's Facilities department and has an anticipated start date on or before November 1, 2026.
