Job summary

The City of Temple is seeking a qualified Utility Technician to install, repair, and maintain water and wastewater infrastructure under supervision. The role requires operating related equipment and ensuring compliance with safety and traffic control standards.

Essential duties include repairing lines, installing mains and laterals, performing line locates under Texas One Call laws, and loading and operating heavy trucks and equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

• Repairs water and wastewater lines; cleans and inspects pipes; installs repair parts and evaluates effectiveness of repair
• Installs water and wastewater infrastructure including mains, services, and laterals; taps and meters; valves; manholes; hydrants; cleanouts, etc.
• Assists in excavation; operates air hammer to break rock and asphalt; uses pick and shovel to remove dirt and rock from excavations; uses probe to locate pipes
• Cleans wastewater lines; uses hand and / or machine rods to unclog or clean mains & laterals
• Performs line locates of water and wastewater infrastructure in accordance with Texas One Call laws
• Cleans & maintains tools and equipment
• Drives various trucks, primarily dump trucks, to haul material related to the repair and installation of water and wastewater infrastructure
• Loads, unloads, and operates dump trucks and other heavy equipment
• Installs traffic control in strict accordance with state and federal manuals of traffic control devices
• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned

Summary

• Assists in excavation; operates air hammer to break rock and asphalt; uses pick and shovel to remove dirt and rock from excavations; uses probe to locate pipes
• Cleans wastewater lines; uses hand and / or machine rods to unclog or clean mains & laterals
• Performs line locates of water and wastewater infrastructure in accordance with Texas One Call laws
• Cleans & maintains tools and equipment

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

Certificates and Licenses

• Class A CDL License and Tanker Endorsement
• TCEQ Licenses C Water and Collection I OR D Water and Collection II
