Job summary

City of Temple is seeking a Utility Technician to install, repair, and maintain water and wastewater infrastructure under the supervision of the Crew Leader, ensuring safety and compliance with traffic control standards.

Duties include repairing and installing mains, services, and laterals; loading and operating dump trucks and heavy equipment; performing line locates as required by Texas One Call; and installing traffic control devices in accordance with manuals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Class A CDL License and Tanker Endorsement.
• TCEQ License C Water and Collection II.

Responsibilities

• Repairs water and wastewater lines; cleans and inspects pipes; installs repair parts and evaluates effectiveness of repair.
• Installs water and wastewater infrastructure including mains, services, and laterals; taps and meters; valves; hydrants; etc.
• Assists in excavation; operates air hammer; uses pick/shovel; locates pipes.
• Cleans wastewater lines; unclogs mains & laterals; performs line locates per Texas One Call laws.
• Drives dump trucks and other heavy equipment; loads/unloads materials.
• Installs traffic control per state/federal manuals; follows city policies and safety guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary

Utility Technician, under the general supervision of the Crew Leader, installs, repairs, and maintains water and wastewater infrastructure, operating related equipment and ensuring compliance with safety and traffic control standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Repairs water and wastewater lines; cleans and inspects pipes; installs repair parts and evaluates effectiveness of repair
• Installs water and wastewater infrastructure including, but not limited to, mains, services, and laterals; taps and meters; valves; manholes; air relief valves; fire hydrants; cleanouts, etc.
• Assists in excavation; operates air hammer to break rock and asphalt; uses pick and shovel to remove dirt and rock from excavations; uses probe to locate pipes
• Cleans wastewater lines; uses hand and / or machine rods to unclog or clean mains & laterals
• Performs line locates of water and wastewater infrastructure in accordance with Texas One Call laws
• Cleans & maintains tools and equipment
• Drives various trucks, primarily dump trucks, to haul material related to the repair and installation of water and wastewater infrastructure
• Loads, unloads, and operates dump trucks and other heavy equipment
• Installs traffic control in strict accordance with state and federal manuals of traffic control devices
• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
