Job summary

County of Licking seeks a Water & Wastewater Operator to support daily operations of wastewater collections, water distribution, and treatment plants in the county. The role involves monitoring equipment, responding to routine and emergency situations, and performing maintenance duties.

Minimum qualifications include a one-year certificate and 1–2 years of related experience, plus a valid Ohio driver’s license. The position emphasizes public interaction and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Monitors water and wastewater treatment equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Assists in repairs on treatment equipment (oil changes, greases motors, pumps, etc.).
  • Operates and maintains water distribution and wastewater systems (pumps, valves, controls).
  • Receives and responds to routine and emergency situations related to treatment, collection, or distribution operations.
  • Collects water and/or wastewater samples for analysis.
  • Completes general housekeeping tasks to maintain facilities.

Job description

  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Promotes and maintains positive and effective working relationships and promotes good public relationships as a representative of Licking County Government.
  • Monitors water and/or wastewater treatment equipment in order to ensure proper operation; checks chemical supply levels and replenishes as necessary.
  • Assists Utility Maintenance Technician with repairs on treatment equipment (changes oil, greases motors, pumps, chains, etc.).
  • Operates and maintains water distribution and wastewater systems (pumps, compressors, electrical controls, lines, valves etc.).
  • Receives and responds to routine and emergency situations related to treatment, collection, or distribution operations.
  • Receives and responds to telephone inquiries or service calls.
  • Inspects and logs consumer meter readings for billings and water consumption information.
  • Performs preventative and service maintenance and repair on departmental vehicles.
  • Collects water and/or wastewater samples for purpose of analysis.
  • Completes general housekeeping tasks in order to maintain facilities (cleans, paints, maintains grounds, etc.).
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable PERRP safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position and all agency safety procedures
  • Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; may be required to attend seminars/training
  • Assists in OUPS Locates
Brief Description

Performs necessary functions of the daily operation and maintenance of wastewater collections, water distribution and treatment plants.

Job Prerequisites
Minimum Qualifications

One year certificate from college or technical school; and one (1) to two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Ohio Driver’s License. Physical mobility, lifting, and exposure to hazardous conditions.

Additional Qualifications (Agency/Dept. Qualifications)

Ohio EPA Class I Water and Class I Wastewater Certificates are preferred but not required. Knowledge of basic Water & Wastewater testing is also recommended but not required. Candidates must be able to relate to the public in a professional manner. Candidate must have a positive attitude with a willingness to learn new skills and contribute to the overall success of the Water & Wastewater Department at Licking County and be able to adapt to changing conditions and work demands. Candidate should have general knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical and septic tank operation. Candidate should have small equipment operation skills, including zero turn mower, skid steer and backhoe. Candidate should be a fast learner and be able to learn new skills. Candidate must be able to work alone and in a team setting. Candidate must have good problems solving skills and the ability to problem solve for system operations, repairs and adjustments. Ability to work under minimal supervision and make appropriate decisions.

Compensation

Salary: $22.00
