Job Overview

You will serve as a Utility Systems Repairer Operator Helper. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

Requirements Continued... Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

Conditions of Employment

For the WG-10 FPL level: Ability to obtain and maintain within 30 days of placement into the FPL WG-10, a CDL Class B Tanker Endorsement license with Air Brakes. Ability to obtain and maintain Wastewater Treatment NJ Dep S-1, Water Distribution NJ DEP W-1, Water Treatment NJ DEP T-1 (Selection of this item may require drug-testing under State or local policy).

For the WG-08 level: Ability to obtain and maintain within 90 days of placement into the WG-08, a CDL Class B Tanker Endorsement license with Air Brakes. Ability to obtain and maintain Wastewater Treatment NJ Dep S-1, Water Treatment NJ DEP T-1 (Selection of this item may require drug-testing under State or local policy).

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/09/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Reliability and Dependability (SCREEN OUT), Ability To Follow Oral Directions, Ability To Work as a Member of a Team, Dexterity and Safety, Shop Aptitude and Interest. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.

Examples of this include working in a shop and assisting with basic routine electrical repair tasks, installing simple piping systems, performing basic plumbing, assisting in installing or maintaining heating systems, maintaining air conditioning units, or assisting in basic automotive repair. Experience could also include working in a production facility, processing facility or similar plant.
