Job description

Introduction

This position is located in the District of Columbia National Guard (DCNG), 113th Civil Engineering Squadron, Facility Operations and Maintenance, District of Columbia Government Operations (DCGO). The mission of DCGO is to provide exceptional customer support to the DC National Guard, while serving the District and the community. “Working Together Towards Tomorrow”.

The 113th Wing Squadron is responsible for the safe operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, ensuring proper heating and cooling of facilities.

Position Overview

This role functions as a journeyman level Utilities Systems Repairer and Operator, responsible for performing checks, tests, adjustments, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks related to boilers, heating, and air conditioning systems. The position involves approximately 85-90% of work in either installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of boiler plants and heating systems or air conditioning equipment, with the remainder in the other craft.

Major Duties
  • Install, operate, repair, and modify oil and gas-fired heating plant equipment, including planning for installation and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain and repair refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including controls and components.
  • Work on infrastructure such as burners, space heaters, circulating pumps, flues, and chimneys.
  • Install and repair refractory linings, boilers, and related systems, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Address instrumentation and controls, including gauges, meters, and safety devices, using test equipment to diagnose issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of air conditioning equipment and systems, including compressors, condensers, and controls.
  • Understanding of refrigeration and air conditioning principles.
  • Experience with utility equipment such as power plants, pumps, and heating systems.
  • Ability to interpret gauges and monitoring equipment, evaluate system functioning, and perform corrective actions.
  • Proficiency with measuring instruments, testing equipment, and power tools.
Other Requirements
  • This position is classified as “Safety Sensitive”.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and a secret security clearance.
  • Subject to emergency call and work hours, including snow removal duties.
Licensure and Certifications
  • Universal CFC certification required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
