Job summary

Mather is seeking a full-time Utility Steward to support the Food and Beverage team by maintaining the cleanliness of all kitchen equipment and back-of-house areas, including dishwashing of china, glassware, and flatware.

The role involves keeping the storeroom organized, assisting with dining area setup, and participating in safety and quality assurance initiatives. This is a safety-sensitive position with varied shifts including weeknights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Able to understand and apply basic instructions with limited supervision.
• Able to read and interpret MSDS and labels.
• Capable of strenuous physical labor, lifting and carrying.
• Reliable, predictable, and punctual to support operations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, equipment, and supplies per safety standards.
• Operate dishwasher and other kitchen cleaning equipment.
• Clean kitchen floors following standard procedures.
• Apply knowledge of safe use and storage of chemicals and equipment.
• Maintain and record data on required logs per company policies.
• Complete daily and weekly cleaning assignments per task lists.
• Regularly empty trash and manage waste in accordance with procedures.
• Minimize loss and breakage through proper handling and storage.
• Perform duties timely and as scheduled by kitchen operations.
• Identify improvement areas and participate in QA process improvements.

Job description

We are seeking full-time Utility Steward to support the team by demonstrating the highest standards of culinary excellence, accountability, respect, integrity, and compassion. The utility steward is responsible for providing support to the Food and Beverage Department by maintaining the cleanliness of all kitchen equipment and back-of-house work area, including dishwashing of china, glassware, flatware.

Maintains the food storeroom and executes special projects under the direction of the Sous Chef, Chef de Cuisine and/or Executive Chef. May also set up public areas and help in dining area as requested by management. This is a safety sensitive position.

We have a full-time opportunity for varied shifts available. Weeknight, weekend, and holiday availability required.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

• Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, equipment, supplies, pots/pans, small wares, china, glass, and silver according to established safety standards and regulations.
• Operate dishwasher and other kitchen cleaning equipment.
• Cleans kitchen floors following standard procedures.
• Applies knowledge of safe use and storage of chemicals and equipment.
• Maintains and records data on required logs per company policies and procedures.
• Completes daily and weekly cleaning assignments per task lists.
• Regularly empties trash containers; shifts and cleans garbage cans; properly operates compactor.
• Minimizes loss and breakage through proper use, cleaning and storage of equipment and supplies.
• Performs duties in a timely and efficient manner and on a schedule determined by kitchen and dining operations.
• Identifies areas for improvement, proposes possible solutions, and participates in data collection and process changes as part of Quality Assurance Process Improvement process.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Required:

• Able to understand, retain and apply basic instructions to perform routine tasks with limited supervision.
• Able to read and interpret work-related documents, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and labels.
• Able to perform strenuous physical labor, lifting, carrying, etc.
• Reliable, predictable, and punctual, to provide timely service to internal and external customers and to support uninterrupted business operations.

Preferred:

• Identifies areas for improvement, proposes possible solutions, and participates in data collection and process changes as part of Quality Assurance Process Improvement process.
• 1 year experience.
• Sanitation Certificate.
• Shifts vary, flexibility in scheduling preferred.
