Job summary

Hinterland Group is seeking an experienced Utility Services & Restoration Foreman to lead a small field crew on utility improvements and restoration projects in New York. You will manage water service connections, sewer laterals, asphalt and concrete restoration, and grading from start to finish.

This hands-on role requires operating excavators and other equipment, reading plans, coordinating daily activities, and ensuring quality and safety standards are met under supervision.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in underground utility construction, incl. 2+ years leading a crew
• Hands-on experience installing water services and sewer laterals, incl. live mains tie-ins
• Working experience with asphalt patching and paving restoration, plus concrete forming/finishing
• Able to safely operate excavators, skid steers, loaders and compaction equipment
• Read plans/drawings and set/check grades with laser or level
• OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P knowledge; OSHA 10-Hour Construction card

Responsibilities

• Lead a small utility construction crew.
• Install/repair water services and sewer laterals; tie-ins to live mains.
• Perform utility tie-ins and small utility upgrades/repair projects.
• Oversee asphalt removal, prep, placement and restoration.
• Oversee concrete restoration (sidewalks, curbs, driveways).
• Perform rough and finish grading for restoration and drainage.
• Operate excavators, skid steers, loaders, compactors as needed.
• Read plans, elevations, and utility drawings; verify grades and locations.
• Coordinate daily activities, materials, equipment and manpower.
• Coordinate inspections and communicate field conditions to Super/PM.
• Maintain a clean, safe jobsite and ensure quality standards.
• Track production, materials, equipment and crew hours.
• Take ownership from start to finish, including final restoration.

Position summary

We are looking for an experienced Utility Services & Restoration Foreman to lead a small crew performing utility improvements, repairs, and restoration work. This person should be capable of taking smaller projects from start to finish, including water services, sewer laterals, utility repairs, asphalt restoration, concrete restoration, and grading. The ideal candidate is a hands-on working foreman who can operate equipment, lead laborers and operators, plan daily activities, and maintain quality and production without requiring constant supervision.

Job type: Full-time, field-based. Reports to: Superintendent / Project Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and work alongside a small utility construction crew.
• Install and repair water services, sewer laterals, and associated underground utilities.
• Perform utility tie-ins and small utility improvement and repair projects.
• Perform asphalt removal, preparation, placement, and restoration.
• Perform concrete restoration, including sidewalks, curbs, driveways, and small repairs.
• Perform rough and finish grading for restoration and drainage.
• Operate excavators, skid steers, loaders, compactors, and other construction equipment as needed.
• Read construction plans, details, elevations, and utility drawings.
• Verify grades, elevations, and utility locations before installation.
• Coordinate daily activities, materials, equipment, and manpower.
• Coordinate inspections and communicate field conditions or changes to the Superintendent/Project Manager.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
• Make sure work meets project specifications and company quality standards.
• Track daily production, materials, equipment, and crew hours.
• Take ownership of the work from start to finish, including final restoration and cleanup.

Required qualifications

• 5+ years in underground utility construction, including at least 2 years leading a crew as a foreman or lead hand
• Hands-on experience installing and repairing water services and sewer laterals, including tie-ins to live mains
• Working experience with asphalt patching and paving restoration, and with concrete forming, placing and finishing
• Able to safely operate excavators, skid steers, loaders and compaction equipment
• Able to read plans, details and utility drawings, and set and check grades with a laser or level
• Working knowledge of trench safety and OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P; OSHA 10-Hour Construction card
• Comfortable coordinating with inspectors, utility locators and property owners
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
