Job summary

Costello Construction is seeking an experienced Utility Foreman to lead and coordinate underground utility work on commercial projects. You will supervise field crews, read plans, ensure safety, and maintain quality and productivity on site.

This hands-on role requires the ability to manage crews, interpret plans, and coordinate with project leadership to keep work progressing safely and efficiently in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in utility construction, underground utilities, site work, or a related field.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising construction crews preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of underground utility installation and construction practices.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and utility drawings.
  • Ability to operate or work safely around heavy construction equipment.
  • Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices and OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, subcontractors, and project partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise utility crews and subcontractors on active construction projects.
  • Coordinate daily work activities with the Superintendent and Project Manager.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, utility plans, specifications, and layouts.
  • Oversee installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utilities, including water, sewer, stormwater, and related infrastructure.
  • Coordinate excavation, trenching, pipe installation, backfilling, grading, and site restoration activities.
  • Ensure work is completed according to plans, specifications, project schedules, and quality standards.
  • Operate and work around heavy equipment as needed.
  • Perform daily jobsite inspections and monitor work progress.
  • Identify potential issues, delays, conflicts, or safety concerns and communicate them promptly to project leadership.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices.
  • Coordinate with inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and other trades as needed.
  • Assist with material and equipment coordination to maintain productivity.
  • Track daily manpower, materials, equipment, and production activities.
  • Train, coach, and develop crew members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the successful completion of the project.

Position Overview

Costello Construction is seeking an experienced and dependable Utility Foreman to lead and coordinate utility construction activities on commercial construction projects.
