Job description

Utility Service Worker

Great Lakes Energy is looking for a utility service worker to support orderly and efficient inventory processes through materials management function, maintain assigned facilities, and support service center facilities as needed.

Who We Are

For over 85 years, we have powered rural communities across 26 counties in western and northern Michigan. We serve over 128,000 meters as the third-largest Michigan-based electric utility and the state's largest member-owned power company.

We prioritize enriching the lives of our community members. We not only provide electric service, but we also provide reliable and robust fiber technology through Truestream, a communication solutions subsidiary of Great Lakes Energy.

We have over 300 employees who are more than just colleagues - we're a close-knit family of diverse professionals united by a shared vision. Our collaborative environment encourages creativity, empowers growth, and fosters a sense of purpose in everything we do.

A Day in The Life of a Utility Service Worker

As a utility service worker, no two days are the same, and every task is an opportunity to showcase your skills! You will help keep our facilities in top-notch shape by being on the lookout for any signs of wear or areas needing attention. You will help organize, clean, and maintain our interior and exterior spaces to ensure our facilities are spotless, safe, and compliant with all regulations. In order to keep our operations running smoothly you will help with inventory management by initiating requisitions for materials and ensuring our supply shelves are always stocked. Your attention to detail will help with cycle counting, spot checking, and investigating inventory discrepancies to ensure our records are as accurate as can be. You will tackle major projects from pulling materials, coordinating logistics, and conducting field inventory - you make sure everything is strategically orchestrated. You will also work in various material storage systems and centers, and operate various types of machinery to load, unload, and move pallets, equipment and materials as necessary, which sometimes means moving materials manually when needed.

Who You Are

You're the kind of person who thrives in a fast-paced environment and multi-tasking is second nature to you. You like variety in your day and feel accomplished after a hard day's work. You have a can-do attitude, willingness to lend a helping hand, and you consider yourself a team player. You're known for your meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that no task is left unfinished, and no challenge is too great to conquer. You take pride in your work and you're ready to bring your energy and enthusiasm to our dynamic team. Your high school education and competency in materials management and warehousing as well as a valid Michigan driver's license and an unrestricted Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with group A designation is what makes you stand out for this position. If you possess these credentials we would love to hear from you.
