The City of Mesa is seeking a Utility Service Worker to join the Energy Resources Department. This role involves training in specialized utility work such as maintaining and repairing gas services. Successful candidates will have opportunities for promotion and are expected to uphold the city's values of Knowledge, Respect, and Integrity. A hiring bonus of $4,200 is available after probation.
This classification has been designated as a non-classified, non-merit system, at-will position.
This recruitment will be used to fill one project-funded, at-will vacancy and to establish a list for potential future vacancies, including full-time classified and/or project-funded at-will positions.
The Energy Resources Department offers a hiring bonus of $4,200 for newly hired Utility Service Workers, payable after successful completion of the initial probation period, contingent upon a satisfactory performance evaluation.

The Utility Service Worker is a trainee role focused on learning to perform specialized utility work, including maintaining, installing, and repairing gas services, investigating customer complaints, and identifying gas operating conditions through on-the-job training. Responsibilities increase in scope as training progresses, and incumbents are expected to exercise good judgment in responding to routine and emergency gas requests, often under adverse weather and hazardous conditions. Safety procedures and equipment are mandatory, and overtime may be required.
The class is supervised by a Utility Service Field Supervisor. Successful trainees may be promoted to Utility Service Specialist through non-competitive criteria after completing coursework, training, and performance assessments.
