Qualifications

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) performing utility relocation work.
  • One year of technical utility relocation work experience and an associate’s degree in surveying, civil engineering, or in a design and drafting technology.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of technical experience performing utility relocation work.

Job description

The Utility Relocation Technician position with the Department of Transportation offers the chance to support public projects that keep Pennsylvania connected. You work with designers, project managers, and utility partners to ensure smooth coordination. This role gives you opportunities to build technical knowledge while contributing to improvements in roads and bridges. Your work strengthens communities and supports public safety.

This position guides utility relocation efforts for roadway projects and ensures coordination among project partners. You help keep progress steady on Department sponsored and locally sponsored projects. As a Utility Relocation Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Project Guidance: Provide direction on utility coordination needs for projects of varying complexity
  • Utility Coordination: Maintain contact with utility companies and oversee progress to meet project milestones
  • Site Visits: Travel to project locations to conduct field views and lead on site coordination meetings
  • Plan Review: Examine relocation plans to ensure compliance with manuals and established standards
  • Technical Support: Assist partners using the Utility Relocation Management System to move projects toward clearance
  • Issue Resolution: Work with project staff to track progress, resolve disputes, and support scheduling needs

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework:You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Clearfield. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827 (before taxes)

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) performing utility relocation work; or
  • One year of technical utility relocation work experience and an associate’s degree in surveying, civil engineering, or in a design and drafting technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of technical experience performing utility relocation work.
