Utility Protection and Control Technician II

Join to apply for the Utility Protection and Control Technician II role at Eaton.

Position Overview: Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is seeking a Utility Protection and Control Technician II. The role involves remote work with travel up to 3 consecutive weeks, variable hours including nights and weekends. Travel is mainly in the Northeast and Northeastern Midwest, with a company vehicle provided for both business and personal use.

Salary: The annual salary ranges from $91,500 ($44/hour) to $146,000 ($70.19/hour), plus per diem, overtime pay, and other benefits. Salaries depend on experience, skills, and market factors.

Responsibilities:

• Perform testing and commissioning on energized transmission stations.
• Develop and implement isolation and removal plans for equipment.
• Communicate technical info to non-technical personnel and customers.
• Assist with substation device testing and troubleshooting.
• Support field testing and commissioning activities, including planning, coordination, and supervision.
• Provide field engineering support for wiring and installation verification.
• Develop and manage project documentation, plans, and notifications.
• Apply engineering skills to resolve technical issues during installation and testing.
• Witness and perform critical tests such as DC trip testing.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of substation relay testing experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Must reside within the contiguous U.S. and hold a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass background and drug screenings.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Degree in electrical engineering or related military experience.
• 7+ years of relevant field engineering experience.
• Level 3 or 4 NETA/NICET certification and PE license are a plus.

Skills:

• Strong communication skills for technical and customer interactions.
• Ability to develop customer relationships and mentor team members.
• Experience with relay testing software and protective relay operation.
• Knowledge of electrical safety and troubleshooting techniques.
